HeARTs Speak | ontario volunteer pet photographer
I have to admit, being a pet photographer can be a little lonely. It’s such a niche that there aren’t many others out there specializing to this degree, and I often feel left to my own devices when navigating through the business and art of photographing pets. The same feeling applies to my volunteering. Until recently I haven’t had many resources to help me — or the shelters I work with — in terms of working with and photographing shelter pets. Plus, sometimes it’s just nice to know there are other people out there that you have something in common with.
And then I discovered HeARTs Speak.
HeARTs Speak is a non-profit organization that unites artists for one specific purpose: to help animals in need. It provides services and tools to support artists (like me!) working to help animals. It helps shelters by offering community outreach programs and making available a public artist directory to facilitate communication and connections between shelters and photographers because professional photographs really do improve adoption success.
If you are an artist, photographer, graphic designer, etc., and feel strongly about using your talents to help animals, check out HeARTs Speak. If you aren’t an artist, you can still help by being a HeARTs Speak ambassador or by making a donation.
I started volunteering my photography skills to local shelters simply because I wanted to help and make an impact (and the animal therapy I receive in return by all the beautiful dogs and cats is a huge bonus!). Now I am part of a wonderful community that feels the same way.
