While chatting on the phone the other day, I was asked if winter is a good time to book a session. In my books, ANY season is a great time to book a session — we are so lucky in Canada to have four wonderful and distinct seasons, and each provides amazing backgrounds for photography.  I know, winter is cold and white , and not very inspiring … at first glance. The truth is, winter sessions are some of my favourites. Not only is the light clear and fresh and bright, and the skies bluer than blue, but the soft muted colours and minimal backgrounds of winter scenes are quite beautiful. Not only that, but it allows your pet to “pop” even more — those neutral colours help make your dog the focus. Plus, the colours match many people’s decor (especially if you love the Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware look like I do!), so when hung on the wall, the printed photographs blend seamlessly into your home.

Here’s a shot from one of my session locations — gotta love that crisp light and blue skies.

Of course that being said, I am really looking forward to ditching my hat and mitts for a spring jacket, and putting my really ugly purple snow pants away for the season (if you’ve had a session with me this winter, you know of the ugliness I speak of). I’m ready for grass, flowers and leaves on the trees … here’s hoping spring comes soon!
