Why September is the best time of year for pet photos
Inquiries are already coming in for fall – it’s the busiest season for all outdoor photographers, and it’s easy to understand why. The vibrant colours, comfortable temperatures and beautiful light (shorter days means a longer golden hour, which is the ideal time for photography) make autumn a popular time of year for photography. But it’s not my favourite time of year for photography. While people are clamouring over fall dates, I think September is actually the best time of year for pet photos.
This post is to wax poetic over my love over September (especially mid to late September) and to have you consider a September date for your next photography session!
Why I think September is the best time of year for pet photos:
1. Soft and varied colours
The summer and fall provide saturated colours (green, orange, red), but the in-between month of September provides the prettiest variety of soft hues. There are golden colours that hint at autumn, the grass is a more muted green and there are other hues like purple and white that add interest. I think that September is the prettiest month of the year.
2. Best of both seasons
September photography is versatile – if you want more of a summer feel, you can capture that. If you want a fall feel, it offers that option, too. You also enjoy comfortable late summer temperatures – no jackets, scarves or gloves required! And the light – it’s so pretty! It’s a soft, warm, mellow light that I just love to photograph in.
3. You don’t have to compete with the background
September provides the perfect balance of interest and neutrality that allows your pet (and you!) to be the star of the photos.
