It’s no secret I love senior dogs. Their grey muzzles. Their soulful eyes. Their happy-go-lucky demeanour. Jasper fits this bill perfectly.

Jasper was born at the side of a river in Ottawa, and he became part of Rachel’s life two months later. He will be 15 soon, and for more than a decade he has been at her side as a faithful companion as they flew on airplanes, lived in different countries, body-surfed in the Pacific and moved homes more times than Rachel can count.

Through all the changes, Jasper has been there, steady and constant.

As we were walking home through Rachel’s subdivision, I noticed many of the houses had brightly-coloured garage doors — I would never personally paint my garage in a bright colour, but I love it when other people do!

In the end, she ordered all colour images – I love converting people and adding a little colour to their lives!

As a side note, don’t you think Jasper bears a striking resemblance to Blackjack, who I photographed last fall and lives just on the other side of town?

Thanks for the wonderful afternoon Rachel and for introducing me to your “old puppy.” I hope you get to share another unforgettable adventure together.
