Ruby & Pearl | Burlington cat photographer
Photographing cats scares me. There, I said it. I’m not scared of cats — I own cat (who is a totally bossypants) and I photograph A LOT of cats for various rescues and shelters. But when I show up for a cat session, I never really know what to expect. Even if the owner has meticulously filled out my questionnaire and told me everything about his or her cat’s personality, I can show up to meet a totally different feline than expected. The outgoing cat is now shy. The quiet cat is now crazy. It’s always a surprise! With a dog, I learn about their personalities as our session progresses and I can adapt to bring out the best in them. With cats … well, they usually remain a mystery! And they have their own agenda. Yeah, they scare me a little. But maybe keeping me on my toes is their plan because it always works out.
I met Ruby and Pearl, two gorgeous calico sisters, in their owners’ ah-mazing luxury condo as a surprise Christmas gift. The owners’ daughter arranged to meet me there while her parents were away and we did a stealth seassion with their two kitties. Ruby and Pearl are a little tricky to tell apart at first glance … luckily they were wearing different colour collars to help me know who was who. Ruby is purple and Pearl is yellow .. or is Pearl yellow and Ruby purple …
I was totally spoiled with this session. The condo had lots of massive windows with fantastic natural light, the place was beautifully-appointed with neutral decor that perfectly coordinated with the pretty multi-coloured fur of its pet residents. And Ruby and Pearl were lovely – inquisitive, sweet, maybe a little shy at times, but totally comfortable in their space.
A sign the session might be coming to an end …
What a great afternoon with these two beauties – so happy I got to be their Burlington cat photographer! And I love a good surprise, so it was fun to be part of this family’s Christmas. As for cat sessions … nah, they aren’t anything to be scared of after all 😉
