I met Jane at a Learn to Run class for beginners at the Running Room. She refused to wear her name tag. For someone like me, who always follows the rules, this was totally inappropriate behaviour. Clearly she was a bad egg. But somehow I always found myself running next to her, puffing away doing “five and ones.” The class was six weeks long, but Jane and I continued to meet after it ended, running two times a week in all seasons. Five years later, and we still try to meet once a week.

Jane is outgoing and funny and quirky. She is also so brave, which I really admire. She quit her sales job at a major book publisher at the age of 40 to go back to school for a fundraising diploma because she wanted to help a cause every day, and landed a great job after graduation. She volunteers almost every weekend for a wide variety of organizations, including helping me at my booth every year at the ARFmazing Race. She is all-round awesome.

Jane has wanted to adopt a dog for a few years (she already has a cat, Suzy Q), but had to wait for her husband to come around to the idea. I knew she liked small dogs, so I wasn’t surprised that she adopted a chihuahua. What totally threw me for a loop was that for her very first dog EVER, she adopted an 11-year-old senior with no teeth and a neurological disorder of some kind. Ringo is always “at attention” all the time too – seriously, this little dog is kind of x-rated.

Jane loves Ringo’s wierdness, which makes her the best match for him. She proudly takes him for walks when others point and laugh, and wears a necklace with his photo in it. She has totally embraced being a dog mom.

Ringo had a cold during our session and wasn’t feeling the best, so we made it short. But I still managed to get lots of variety in this one location, including a few at the adjoining  skate park. Doesn’t Ringo look awesome here?
