Packing up Happy Tails HQ | moving a small business
Despite my best efforts to post to my blog once a week, I missed an entry last week. And this post is kind of thin on the pet photography. The reason is because Happy Tails HQ is moving next week and things are a little crazy right now! We actually get the keys to our new house tomorrow, so it will be a gradual move in.
I had forgotten how stressful moving is, especially when it includes moving a small business. Throw in a toddler, who unpacks every box we pack, an anxiety-riddled dog and a slightly bananas cat, and the home front isn’t feeling too homey these days!
I think Chloe is the most stressed family member right now. I don’t know how to ease her anxiety, but every screech of the packing tape coming off the roller makes her pace and pant. We are her third family, so maybe she’s worried we are going to simply leave one day and never come back. We try to give her lots of outside time to get away from the boxes and chaos. It seems to help.Kitty, on the other hand, doesn’t seem too bothered. In fact, she is enjoying all the little hiding places that boxes and packing materials provide. I spent several hours in the office last week not even realizing she was curled up between some boxes under a blanket. Of course, she still lets us know who is in charge of the household and the whole moving operation.
I’m hoping everyone will enjoy the new place. It has a bigger backyard for Chloe (although it is currently fenced on only three sides, so one of our first priorities is to completely enclose it) and a nice bay window with a ledge for Kitty to watch the birds. And I’m hoping our son will enjoy the finished basement and the cute little school he will attend next year that has only 250 students compared to the 1,000+ kids that attend the one in our current neighbourhood.
I may be a little less present on Facebook and the blog over the next few weeks, but I still have sessions scheduled during our move, so check-in soon for some new client sessions. In the meantime, if anyone has any advice for moving with pets, please leave a comment and share your experience!
Wags,
