Celebrating Joey | Burlington Celebration Session

The idea of a Celebration Session for any pet is sad, but one for a goofy, burly, happy, vibrant golden retriever who’s only five years old is pretty darn heartbreaking.

Joey Jax loves to dock dive (he’s award winning!), cuddle and has a thing for tennis balls. We can relate to the ball obsession at our house. I thought Chloe had amassed an impressive number in the backyard, but Joey has far surpassed her — he has more than 800 of them! This summer Joey was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Joey seems to be responding well to treatment, and fingers and paws crossed he can kick this cancer in the butt.

Of course, like all dogs, illness and sadness were far from Joey’s mind when I met him at one of my favourite natural areas for his session. Ball? Check. River? Check. Treats? Check. Joey was a true joy to work with, and his happiness is contagious!
