Goat under the bridge | Burlington pet photography
From the moment I read Kate’s inquiry, I knew that we had to meet. She was asking about photos of her two-year-old great dane/weimaraner mix Goat, who, as she explained, is either asleep or hyper. I have always wanted to photograph a great dane in any shape or form, and my last session with weims (Buckeye and Zoey) was such a hit that I knew this guy would be amazing. And his name was Goat. There HAD to be a story there.
As it turns out, no story! After adopting Goat from Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue, Kate and her boyfriend Mike just wanted an interesting name that would confuse their family members (they are a pretty fun couple!). Of course, she did mention they happen to think he is the Greatest Of All Time … at this point I started to believe that we were kindred spirits.
This Burlington pet photography session was a Christmas surprise for Mike that we shot back in early November. Kate wanted a more urban location. She also mentioned that she loved bridges, so instead of finding just any old bridge, I found the biggest, most dramatic bridge I could. Then we hit up the beach where I got to see Goat’s totally dorky running form in action.
I am beginning to believe that weims are the supermodels of the dog world, with their long legs, lean forms and nonplussed expressions. If Kate Moss was a dog, I think she would look like Goat (if Kate Moss is reading, that is a total compliment!).
There were a few times during our session that Goat’s ears caught a draft.
There was so much drama during our session — none of it came from Goat. He’s a low-key kind of guy. But the sky that day was dramatic and there were lots of larger-than-life landmarks that got my creative juices flowing.Goat is a big dog — he those tall great dane legs and stature. But he is such a scaredy dog! Noises, unfamiliar territory and people, more noises … he’s a big worrywart.
We finished the session on the beach, where goat had a fantastic time running in the sand. His form won’t win any prizes, but it sure did put a smile on my face. What a goof.
What a great morning with great company. Goat, you big lug, you are something special! I can’t wait to see what your creative parents do with your photos!
