5 awesome apps for pet owners
I’m not really a technology geek — I’ve never felt the need to have the latest and greatest gadget or line up for any new product. In fact, I didn’t even have the Internet in my home until my husband and I bought our first house five years ago. Even more shocking: I just bought my very first smartphone last month!
I do have an iPad though, which I bought a few years ago for business purposes. Truthfully, my toddler uses it more than I do (Him: “Mom, can I watch a video? Me: “I don’t have any videos on here.” Him: “Mom, just go to YouTube.” Have I mentioned that he’s three?). But I am slightly addicted to browsing through all the available apps out there — there is an app for everything!
After doing some research and some fun app browsing, I’ve come up with 5 awesome apps for pet owners that I think are pretty nifty. I haven’t used all of them, so I can’t provide thorough personal reviews, but with free or low prices, these are all on my list to download.
5 Awesome Apps for Pet Owners
1) Pet Phone (iOS. $2.99). This app helps you track your pet’s health, including vet appointments, medications, allergies and food preferences, and the app can be synced with your calendar to get reminders.
2) iCam (iOS and Android. $4.99). Admit it, you’re curious about what your pet actually does when you leave the house, right? Is Rover lounging on the bed? Is Fluffy scratching the couch? This app allows you to watch your furry friend remotely to makes sure all is well while you’re away.
3) MapMyDogWalk (iOS and Android. Free). I’ve used MapMyRun before and this app is similar, with a canine twist. MapMyDogWalk lets you map your dog-walk route and provides info like how long and fast the route is, and it lets you keep track of all your walk routes. If Fido’s feeling lazy and forgets to remind you that it’s walk time, you can sync walk reminders with your calendar.
4) Weather Puppy (iOS and coming soon to Android. Free). The Weather Puppy app is the cutest way to check the weather before heading out with your dog (or anytime really — since installing, I’m constantly checking the forecast!). It shows more than 100 dogs, depending on the time and weather, and you can add a photo of your own dog. The best part: Weather Puppy partners with shelters and non-profits committed to helping animals across the U.S.
5) Woof (iOS. Free. Made in Canada!). Woof is a social networking app for dogs and dog lovers. You can track your dog walks for distance and time, and mark your dog’s “territory” according to where Rover pees. When other users open the map and click on the territory, the app sends a notification that Rover has been “sniffed.” The app also shows nearby dog parks and will soon show retailers and vets.
Are there any apps that you love to use? How do you incorporate technology into pet ownership?
